Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel has announced that rookie goaltender Eric Levine has been called up by the Allen Americans (Central Hockey League) and will report immediately. There is no timetable for his return, however, it appears unlikely that he will be back with the Rivermen this season.
The promotion marks the second time this year the 25-year-old has been called up to the CHL. On February 5, Levine was loaned to the Quad City Mallards (CHL), before being promoted to the Syracuse Crunch (American Hockey League) two days later. He did not make an appearance for either team.
A native of Wheeling, Illinois, Levine appeared in 23 games for the Rivermen this season and posted a 11-8-4 record with a 2.70 goals against average and .912 saves rate. He leaves as the SPHL's No. 9-ranked goaltender.
Levine began his first pro season with the Toledo Walleye (ECHL), but did not make an appearance before he signed with the Rivermen on Nov. 7. Prior to turning pro, Levine spent the last four seasons at Robert Morris University - Pittsburgh (NCAA Div. I). Over 72 collegiate games, he combined for a 30-22-11 record along with a 2.90 GAA and a .925 saves rate. Last year, the 6'3, 180-pound goaltender appeared in 35 games during his senior campaign and produced 19 wins.
The Rivermen return home on Friday for a 7:15 p.m. puck drop against the Louisiana IceGators at Carver Arena. Friday is "Superhero Night" featuring appearances by Batman, Spiderman, Captain America and more. Plus, fans are invited to participate in a superhero costume contest. The game can be heard locally on CD Country 107.9 FM or online here . Fans can also follow along via the live video and audio stream at www.americaonesports.com .
