Havoc Win Two, Finish Week Strong

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc finished the past week strong by sweeping a pair of game from the Mississippi RiverKings winning 3-2 on the road Friday and 1-0 at home on Saturday. The Havoc fell at home to the Fayetteville FireAntz 4-2 on Thursday.

Thursday, February 20 - Fayetteville 4, Huntsville 2

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Fayetteville FireAntz and the Huntsville Havoc were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Fayetteville made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The FireAntz gained the winning advantage on a goal by Derek Elliott 7:43 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Fayetteville was paced by Elliott, who finished with one goal and one assist.

The FireAntz excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The 32 shots that Fayetteville put on net surpassed the FireAntz's average of 26.2 shots per game this season.

Others who scored for Fayetteville included Tommy Lange, Bobby Reed, and Kyle McNeil, who each put in one. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Zach Carriveau, who had two and John Clewlow, Corey Tamblyn, and Matt Ridley, who contributed one a piece.

Huntsville managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Havoc finished below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Huntsville put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.9 it averages per game.

The Havoc were helped by Ben Schoeneberger, who grabbed one goal. Schoeneberger scored 12:04 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Branden Parkhouse provided the assist. Huntsville also got a goal from Ray Ortiz as well. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Justin Cseter, who had one.

Peter Skoggard rejected 33 shots on goal for Fayetteville. The FireAntz incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jesse Kallechy recorded 28 saves for Huntsville.

Friday, February 21 - Mississippi RiverKings 2, Huntsville 3

SOUTHAVEN, MS - The Huntsville Havoc gutted out a close 3-2 win against Mississippi RiverKings.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Scott Harff's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Huntsville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Nick Lazorko, Harff and Paul Kurceba took 12 of the team's 20 shots.

In addition, Huntsville received assists from Stuart Stefan and Justin Cseter, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi RiverKings put 49 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.2 it averages per game.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Todd Hosmer, who registered two goals. Hosmer scored the first of his two goals at 16:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Leo Thomas picked up the assist. Hosmer's next tally made the score 2-2 with 17:16 left in the third period. Mississippi RiverKings earned a power play opportunity when Brock Sawyer was put in the box for holding. Devin Mantha assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Mike Grace and Matt Whitehead, who contributed one a piece.

The Havoc's Kevin Genoe stopped 47 shots out of the 49 that he faced. Huntsville totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. The Havoc ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kurceba was ejected from the game. Matthew Krahn rejected 17 shots on goal for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.

Saturday, February 22 - Mississippi RiverKings 0, Huntsville 1

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc beat Mississippi RiverKings, 1-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 4:31 into the the first period by Brock Sawyer proved to be the game winner, and powered Huntsville to the victory Nick Lazorko picked up the assist.

The Havoc were led by Sawyer, who grabbed one goal.

Huntsville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Havoc did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Huntsville puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Havoc was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Huntsville allows 2.9 goals per game. The Havoc relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Lazorko, Scott Harff and Leland Fidler took 15 of the team's 21 shots. Huntsville's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with nine shots between them.

Mississippi RiverKings forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Mississippi RiverKings surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Mississippi RiverKings stifled the Havoc's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mississippi RiverKings could not produce up to it normal offensive output. Mississippi RiverKings averages 3.1 goals per game. Mississippi RiverKings' offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 12 shots on net during the game.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Mike Grace, who took four shots.

Huntsville's Kevin Genoe stopped 24 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Havoc totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play. John Griggs recorded 20 saves for Mississippi RiverKings.
