
Lerg Named ECHL Goaltender of the Week

Toledo, OH - Toledo Walleye Goaltender Jeff Lerg has been named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for December 14-20.
Lerg started and won all four games this past week for the Walleye, posting a 1.71 goals against average and a .939 save percentage . He started the week with a 29 save performance in a 5-1 win vs. Indy on Wednesday and followed that up with 31 stops in a 4-3 shootout victory Thursday night in Brampton. The 15 save shutout of Manchester (2-0) on Saturday night was the fifth shutout for Lerg in a Walleye uniform. He finished the perfect week with 33 saves Sunday at Indy in a 4-3 win.
"Jeff performed this past week like he has all year, at an elite level," said Head Coach Derek Lalonde. Lerg currently ranks second in the ECHL with 11 wins this season, while he is sixth among goaltenders with a .926 save percentage and ranks ninth in goals against average (2.07). On Friday, December 4 of this year he made his AHL debut for San Diego, stopping all 11 shots he faced.
This is the second time in his career that Lerg has won the weekly award as he took home the honors for the week of March 16-22, 2015 (3-0-0, .065GAA and .975SVP). He was named ECHL Goaltender of the Month in November of 2014 for going 7-0-1 with a 2.65 goals against average and .922 save percentage and he was awarded for his efforts last season by being named All-ECHL Second Team. The 29-year-old goaltender holds the career Walleye record with 43 wins and his shutout last Saturday tied him with Jordan Pearce for the most in Walleye history.
Prior to joining Toledo last season, Lerg spent three seasons playing in France and Italy. The native of Livonia, Michigan posted a goals against average of 3.32 with a save percentage of .910 in 2013-14 while between while between the pipes for Villard-de-Lans in France and was named French League "Best Goaltender".
Prior to turning professional, Lerg had four seasons at Michigan State University. In his time as a Spartan, the 5'6", 165-pound goaltender scooped up many league awards including the 2005-06 CCHA Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie Team member, plus 2006 CCHA Tournament MVP. In 2006-07, he helped lead the Spartans to the NCCA Championship. He won 78 games over four seasons, including a career-best 26 during the 2006-07 season. Lerg finished his collegiate career with a 78-51-17 record, a 2.37 GAA and a .920 SVP.
