Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

LAST WEEK'S RECAP

Overall Picture: The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (13-12-3), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, collected all four points in a two-game series at home against the Orlando Solar Bears last weekend, led by an offense that surged for 13 goals between the two contests. Several key players enjoyed outstanding performances, including Jack Combs (3g, 2a), Josh Nicholls (1g, 4a), Jordan Knackstedt (1g, 3a) and Bretton Cameron (2g, 2a), who each recorded at least four points.

Greenville opened the doubleheader on Saturday when it turned a nail biter into a 6-1 blowout with four goals in the third period, including three tallies in the final 91 seconds. Rookie defenseman Justin DaSilva helped seal the victory with a career-best three points (1g, 2a), including his first professional goal, while Joey Holka and Zack LaRue notched their first goals in the ECHL this season. Knackstedt also contributed in a big way with four points (1g, 3a), tying a career high. Between the pipes, P.J. Musico made 26 saves for his fifth win of the season.

Less than 24 hours later, the Swamp Rabbits exploded for a season-high seven goals in a 7-4 victory against the Solar Bears on Sunday. Combs (2g, 1a), who was initially credited with a hat trick before his first goal was changed to Nicholls, still impressed by producing his team-leading eighth multi-point game this season. Nicholls (1g, 3a) and Michael St. Croix (3a) also made big contributions in the divisional matchup. With the victory, Greenville improved to 3-1-2 against Orlando this season and 9-5-3 on SANDLAPPER Securities Rink. In net, Musico halted 40 shots and earned another victory, improving his team-leading win total for the season to six.

QUICK SHIFTS

Jack'd Up: Elite scorer Jack Combs posted another impressive performance last weekend, scoring three goals and adding two assists in a pair of games against Orlando. That success bumped Combs into a tie for second in the league's overall scoring race (30 points), placing him just eight points behind former teammate Chad Costello (Allen). In addition, the 27-year-old is currently on a team-best five-game point streak (5g, 4a) and has scored in four straight contests at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena (5g), dating back to December 10. Combs leads Greenville in goals (14), assists (16) and points (30).

Sound of Musico: Penn State product P.J. Musico has been a steady presence in the Greenville net this season and continues to turn heads as the season progresses. The 25-year-old rookie leads all Swamp Rabbits' goaltenders with six wins and is currently 17th among league netminders with a 2.46 goals-against-average. Musico is also 3-1-0 on the road this season with a 1.75 goals-against-average in five appearances.

Streaking: Forwards Jack Combs, Joey Holka and Bretton Cameron have each scored in two straight games heading into the Christmas holiday. For Holka, the two goals are his first with the club this season after he began the year with the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League. Holka was nearly a point-per-game player there with 12 points (5g, 7a) in 13 contests. In addition, Cameron is now ranked third on the team in goal-scoring (9) and fourth on the squad in points (18). The 26-year-old captain played his 300th ECHL game on Sunday.
