Lemurs Pitch and Hit to Victory

Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (25-31) pitching stays solid as they hold the Wichita Wingnuts (34-23) to three runs on the way to a 7-3 win on Tuesday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

Ryan Sasaki (2-1) earned the win in his third start for the Lemurs, going five and two thirds, giving up two runs, on nine hits, walking one, and striking out one. Sasaki worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth, getting John Rodriguez to bounce into a one, two, three double play, to create two outs. Then with runners on second and third, Sasaki got Blake Bergeron to ground out to third to work out of the jam.

After hitting back-to-back batters in the sixth, Sasaki turned the game over to the Bradley Blanks. Blanks came out faced one batter and got Ryan Khoury to fly out to left to end the inning.

Edwin Walked would follow Blanks in the seventh, giving up a walk before retiring the side.

Chaz Roe would then take a crack at the Wingnuts order. Roe gave up a run on two hits but was able to work out of the inning with no further damage.

Mike Benacka secured the win for the Lemurs in the ninth, allowing the first batter to reach on a single. After the base hit Benacka settled down and struck out the next three Wingnuts batters. It was the second night in a row that Benacka had struck out the side in the ninth.

The Lemurs offense scattered seven runs throughout the night with John Allen leading the drive, going two for four with a RBI. Five of the nine Lemurs batters picked up solo RBI's, and seven of the nine batters had at least one hit for the Lemurs.

The Lemurs will head to Amarillo for a four game series starting on Thursday. They will return home for a six game home stand starting on July 23, against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
