Laredo Lemurs News Release
Winnipeg, Manitoba - It was a combined 21 runs, 34 hits, and 13 pitchers before Laredo salvaged the finale of a three-game set at Shaw Park with a 13-8 win over Winnipeg in 11 innings.
The Lemurs scored at least a run in each of the first five innings, while the Goldeyes plated at least one in each of the first five except the fourth. The game was tied 7-7 when Laredo took the lead with a single tally in the seventh. Winnipeg answered with a run in the eighth to knot the game at 8-8.
Both teams went scoreless in the tenth before the Lemurs broke it open with a five-run, 11th inning. Catcher Brian Peterson led off with a four-pitch walk. First baseman Mike Sheridan then singled and Peterson advanced to third on a throwing error. The next batter, third baseman Harrison Kain, walked to load the bases with no one out. Pinch hitter Jake Opitz then grounded into a fielder's choice with the Goldeyes forcing Peterson out at home. The bases remained loaded as left fielder Marcos Rodriguez sacrificed Sheridan home with a fly out to break the tie and give the Lemurs a 9-8 lead. Short stop Jimmy Mojica followed with a single to drive in Kain for a 10-8 advantage. Center fielder Sawyer Carroll then put the game out of reach with a three-run homerun to make it 13-8. It was Carroll's second home run of the season and gave him a four-hit day with three RBI.
The Lemurs (11-2) second extra-inning affair of the season lasted four hours and fifteen minutes and had fourteen lead changes. Laredo scored a season high in runs on a franchise-record twenty base hits. Winnipeg (10-3) finished with fourteen base hits but left thirteen runners on base. Laredo right-hander Bradley Blanks (2-0) picked up the win as he worked three innings of one-run, three-hit ball. Goldeyesreliever Wes Alsup (0-1) suffered the loss after he allowed five runs on three hits, two walks, and the home run in the 11th inning.
Six Lemurs had at least two base hits in the win. Jimmy Mojica had a three-hit day with two doubles and three runs scored. Mike Sheridan went 4-for-6 with two doubles and scored three times as well. And, Harrison Kain finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. The Lemurs went 4-2 on their road trip against North Division teams. Laredo has the day off Thursday before returning to Uni-Trade Stadium Friday night to start a three-game weekend series with the Kansas City T-Bones. For more information, visit www.laredolemurs.com.
