Birmingham Legion FC News Release
BIRMINGHAM, AL - Birmingham Legion FC midfielder Eli Crognale announced today that he is retiring from professional soccer.
"As it might come as a surprise to a lot of you, I have decided to say farewell to the game of soccer," said Crognale. "Since I can remember, I have always been deeply immersed in it, carrying with me a burning desire to work and grow. This passion has brought me everywhere in life up to this point. Without soccer, I would have no story. But, as with all good stories, the unexpected arises and with it comes new challenges, new paths, and new passions to embrace. I have reached this point of embrace and will be attacking it whole heartedly. I will never lose the love for the game, as it has molded me into who I am. For this, I am forever grateful.
"Last but not least, I want to thank the Birmingham Legion for all they have done for me during my time here. The players and staff are people I will always have a connection with. Truly good people. That is what I have always loved most about the club. While coming to play for the Legion was a soccer driven choice, the people I've met, opportunities I've had, and memories I've made in this city will stick with me forever. As I embark on a new journey in the world of real estate with my new company, Crognation Capital, I will always carry with me a piece of Birmingham. To the fans who have supported me during my time here, I will still be around, and I hope to see all you soon!"
Crognale joined Legion FC in 2020 and in the past two seasons played in 43 games for the Black and Gold, as well as both of the team's games so far this year, while racking up two goals, four assists, 25 chances created, 44 tackles, 33 interceptions, and 19 clearances.
"We would like to thank Eli for the time and effort he put in with Legion FC and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors," said Jay Heaps, Legion FC President and General Manager. "He's always been a consummate professional, and we're glad he's sticking around Birmingham."
Legion FC's next home game is this Saturday at Protective Stadium at 6:30pm CT versus the Colorado Switchbacks. Fans get purchase tickets for the match HERE or by contacting the Legion FC Ticket Office.
