Lexington Legends News Release

Ronnie Ramirez' base hit scored pinch runner Marques Williams from second base to give the Lexington Legends a 2-1 win over the Greenville Drive in 10 innings at Applebee's Park Friday night. The hit capped an evening of spectacular pitching performances on both sides.

Lexington starter Jordan Lyles struck out 11 in six innings. He allowed three hits, including a home run to center field by Will Middlebrooks leading off the fifth inning. Henry Villar pitched two and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief before giving way to Patrick Urckfitz, who got the final out in the ninth and retired the Drive in order in the 10th to get the win, his second without a loss.

Greenville starter Stephen Fife pitched five perfect innings, but he was making only his second start of the season after missing several weeks due to weakness in his throwing shoulder. He was relieved by Mike Lee (L, 0-1) at the start of the sixth inning. Lee went the rest of the way, allowing seven hits and both Lexington runs.

The Legends tied the game at 1-1 in the seventh when Steve Brown doubled, went to third on an error by left fielder David Mailman, and scored on a single by Brian Pellegrini.

Lexington's Freddie Hernandez led off the 10th with a single. Brandon Barnes sacrificed him to second. Williams replaced Hernandez, and Ramirez' line drive to center field brought Williams home with the winning run.

Lexington and Greenville meet in the second game of the three-game series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Applebee's Park.
