Legends Take 8-2 Win over Augusta

(AUGUSTA, Ga.) Fred Ford's two-run homer capped a five-run fifth inning, and the Lexington Legends went on to an 8-2 win over the Augusta GreenJackets Saturday night.

The Legends took the lead with a run in the top of the second inning. With one out, Humberto Arteaga singled, moved to third on a single by Kenny Diekroeger, and scored on a passed ball.

With one out in the fifth, Terrance Gore was hit by a pitch, and Ethan Chapman followed with an infield hit. Bubba Starling's single scored Gore to give the Legends a 2-0 lead as Chapman moved to third.

Pitcher Justin Schumer's errant pickoff throw to third allowed Chapman to score as Starling moved to second. Mark Donato's single scored Starling, and Ford followed with his seventh home run of the year to give the Legends a 6-0 lead.

The Legends added two more runs in the sixth inning on a walk to Alex Marquez, a double by Gore, and a two-run single by Chapman.

Mitch Delfino's two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth accounted for both Augusta runs.

Miguel Almonte (3-4) worked the first six innings and picked up the win. Daniel Hernandez pitched the final three innings and retired all nine batters he faced, earning his sixth save of the year.

Schumer (2-5), the Augusta starter, was the losing pitcher.

Each team has won one game in the series, which concludes Sunday. Game time is 2:05 p.m.
