Legends Snap Streak with 9-3 Win over Greenville

(GREENVILLE, S.C.) Jake Junis worked seven strong innings and the Lexington Legends ended their losing streak at four games with a 9-3 win over the Greenville Drive Wednesday night.

The Legends took the lead with a run in the third inning when Mauricio Ramos doubled with one out and scored on Fred Ford's two-out single. The Legends added a run in the fourth on a two-out double by Luis Villegas and a run-scoring single by Alfredo Escalera.

With one out in the top of the fifth, Dominque Taylor singled and Ford walked. Humberto Arteaga flied to right, and Taylor advanced to third after the catch. Carlos Garcia's single scored Taylor as Ford moved to second. Ford then stole third and came home when catcher Jordan Weems' throw went into left field for an error. Dex Kjerstad followed with a single to left, scoring Garcia and giving the Legends a 5-0 lead.

The Drive scored a run in the bottom of the fifth. Weems singled and moved to third on a single by Carlos Coste. Weems scored as Forrestt Allday grounded into a double play.

The Drive cut the lead to two with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Tzu-Wei Lin singled to center and advanced to third when the ball got by Escalera for an error. Lin scored on a sacrifice fly by Jantzen Witte. Asuaje followed with a double and came around to score on a single by Kendrick Perkins, leaving the score at 5-3.

Ramon Torres started the Legends ninth with a single, and he moved to second when Perkins bobbled the ball in left field. After Mauricio Ramos struck out, Taylor singled, and Torres, who had stopped at third, came home on an error by right fielder Forrestt Allday. Taylor stole second and scored on a double by Fred Ford, and after Arteaga grounded out, Carlos Garcia hit his second home run of the year, putting the Legends ahead 9-3.

Junis(6-3) got the win. He allowed five hits and one run in seven innings. Matt Alvarez worked the last inning and one-third and picked up his second save.

Greenville starter Jamie Callahan (2-5) allowed 10 hits and five runs in five innings and took the loss.

The Legends will open a four-game series in Augusta Thursday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
