Legends Silence Swarm

January 14, 2018 - NBA G League (G League) - Texas Legends News Release

MISSISSAUGA, ON, (Jan. 12, 2018) - The Texas Legends (14-11) got a hot start in the first half and never looked back, silencing the Greensboro Swarm (8-18) 109-93 Friday at the NBA G League Showcase.

The Legends held Greensboro to a record-low 9 points in the first quarter to take a 17-point lead heading into the second. Johnathan Motley used his six minutes in the second to go 6-of-6 and help spread the gap to 30.

Greensboro opened the third with an 11-point run to pull within 18 but Texas closed the comeback there. Motley controlled the boards in the fourth with 10 to nearly match Greensboro's team total of 12. With under two minutes to play, the Swarm found themselves within 15 but JJ Avila answered with 5 straight points for the Legends to insure the victory.

Motley led all with 23 points, 18 rebounds, and 4 blocks while Jameel Warney followed closely for the duo's sixth straight night of double-doubles with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Wade Baldwin IV finished with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Brandon Ashley added 15 points, 7 rebounds, and Jalen Jones came off the bench for 15 points, 7 rebounds. Donald Sloan (11 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists) and Avila (10 points, 5 rebounds) rounded off the Legends double-digit scorers.

Dwayne Bacon had 19 points, 8 rebounds to lead the Swarm while Roscoe Smith came off the bench to add 14 points, 5 rebounds. Cat Barber and L.G. Gill added 10 apiece off the bench and Mangok Mathiang finished with 6 points, 11 rebounds to complete the Swarm's double-digit performances.
