Lexington Legends' outfielder Elier Hernandez has been named South Atlantic League Player of the Week for August 18-24, SAL President Eric Krupa announced Monday.

For the period, Hernandez played in six games and had 16 hits in 25 at bats, an average of .640. He had two doubles, one home run, two runs batted in and nine runs scored. In the Legends three-game sweep of Augusta August 22-24, Hernandez had 10 hits in 13 at bats.

Hernandez, 19, a native of the Dominican Republic, signed with the Kansas City Royals as an international free agent in July 2011. He was recently rated the 16th-best prospect in the Royals' organization by mlb.com.

"Elier has had an unbelievable week," said Legends President/COO Andy Shea. "The award is well-deserved. He has tremendous potential, and it's been a pleasure to watch him develop with the Legends this year."

Hernandez and the Legends will play their final three home games of the season Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark against the West Virginia Power, an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Game time each night is 7:05 p.m.
