Texas Legends News Release

Frisco, TX (February 17, 2011) - The Texas Legends announced today that General Manager Del Harris will be awarded the 2011 Jerry Colangelo Award on Saturday morning at the 2011 All-Star Breakfast in Los Angeles as part of NBA All-Star Weekend.

The Jerry Colangelo Award is named in honor of the former CEO of the Phoenix Suns; Chairman of USA Basketball; elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004; All-Big Ten performer in 1961 and 1962.

Colangelo is known throughout professional sports as a man who excels both on and off the court. Jerry's character, integrity, and leadership have lead to national recognition as he has been named NBA Executive of the Year on four separate occasions.

Past award recipients include Rich DeVos (owner of the Orlando Magic) and Don Carter (first owner of the Dallas Mavericks).

Harris, a former NBA head coach, is in his first year working with the Legends organization. In 12 full seasons as a head coach he has complied a 556-457 (.549) overall record with three different teams (Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers).

Harris began his coaching duties in 1976 as an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets, before later becoming the head coach there. He led the Rockets to the 1981 NBA Finals where they fell to the Boston Celtics.

After his tenure in Houston ended in 1983, the NBA's most winning coach in history and father of Legends owner Donnie Nelson, Don Nelson brought Harris to the Milwaukee Bucks. He began as an assistant and was promoted to head coach in 1987 before eventually becoming general manager of the Bucks.

Following his stint with the Bucks, Harris became head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, winning NBA Coach of the Year honors in '94-'95. He was later an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks from 2000-2007, assistant for the Chicago Bulls in '08-'09 and assistant for the New Jersey Nets in '09-'10, before coming to the Legends.

Harris also served as coach of the Chinese national men's basketball team, where he coached NBA All-Star Yao Ming and led China to a surprising upset victory over Serbia and Montenegro in the 2004 Athens Olympics basketball tournament.

Great tickets for all Legends home games are still available by calling (214) 469-0822 or emailing the team at info@TexLegends.com.
