Texas Legends News Release
risco, TX (April 6, 2011) - The Texas Legends fell in their first playoff game in franchise history on Wednesday night, as the Tulsa 66ers took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series after a 94-83 victory at HP Court inside Dr Pepper Arena.
After Texas jumped out to a 7-2 lead, Tulsa came back to take the lead at 13-12. The Legends would use a Booker Woodfox 3-pointer with just under a minute to go in the opening quarter to take a 23-22 lead into the second.
The 66ers went on a 12-1 run to start the second quarter and took their largest lead of the game to that point going up by ten. However, trailing 48-39 with under two minutes remaining in the quarter, the Legends went on a 9-0 sprint to finish the half tied at 48.
Texas' Sean Williams completed a double-double by halftime with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the first half, while Jerome Dyson led the way for Tulsa with 13 points in the opening half.
The Legends failed to score in the first 4:38 of the second half, while the 66ers began the half on a 12-0 run. Texas though ended the third on a 21-6 run that gave them a 69-66 lead heading into the final quarter.
Tulsa jumped out on an 8-0 run to begin the fourth quarter and regain the lead. Despite the Legends crawling within five points of the lead with two minutes to go, Tulsa would pull away in the final minutes to preserve the series-opening win.
Chris Roberts led the way for Texas with a season-high 20 points, while Dyson topped all scorers with 23 points for Tulsa.
The best-of-3 series will now shift to Tulsa for game two on Friday night at the Tulsa Convention Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM. The Legends need a win on Friday to extend the series to a third game. If necessary, game three would be in Tulsa on Sunday night.
