Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX (Mar. 18, 2018) -The Texas Legends (27-20) walked away with a wire-to-wire victory over the Agua Caliente Clippers (20-27) 122-111 Sunday night in Frisco.
Texas grabbed the lead right out of tipoff and never looked back. The home team shot 57% in the first and stifled Agua Caliente to 31% to take a 30-19 lead at the first buzzer. Keith Hornsby had a big second quarter, knocking down 10 of his 27 points as Texas' hot shooting continued. The visitors began to heat up but were unable to come closer than 8 points as Texas matched every shot.
The Legends took their largest lead of the night (+23) early in the fourth, but the Clippers' rally efforts continued. Short bursts put the visitors within nine with 3:30 to play but that was the closest the Legends would allow. JJ Avila sealed the victory, and a new personal season-high, at the free throw line to give Texas the final edge of the season series 2-1.
Brandon Ashley led all scorers with 29 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks for Texas while Keith Hornsby followed closely with 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Avila had another big game, following up his triple-double over Santa Cruz with 19 points, a team-high 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Cory Jefferson (14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists) and Jordan Downing (10 points, 2 rebounds) wrapped up the double-digit scoring, but Duke Mondy dished out a game-high 8 assists to go with 8 points, and 2 rebounds.
Tyler Roberson led the Clippers with 19 points, 12 rebounds for the game's only double-double while LaDontae Henton added 19 points, 5 rebounds off the bench. Skylar Spencer finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and a game-high 4 blocks, and Tim Quarterman added 16 points, 4 rebounds, and a team-high 5 assists.
Texas heads to Northern Arizona Wednesday for their final road game of the regular season at 6:30pm CT. Fans can catch all the action live at www.TexLegends.com.
