LINCOLN, Neb. - Charles-Alexis Legault tied the game late, but the Lincoln Stars (12-24-3) lost in overtime 4-3 against the Waterloo Black Hawks (16-23-1) on Friday night at the Ice Box.

Cross Hanas put the home team up early in the first period, scoring his second goal of the season at 4:29. Dominic James was given the primary assist after a brief give-and-go with Hanas.

Charlie Strobel knotted the game at once for the visitors as he lit the lamp for the first time this year at 8:51. The Stars regained the lead at 13:44 after a terrific centering pass by Jack O'Brien to James Stefan, who scored his ninth goal of the season.

Alex Gaffney's 13th goal of the season would serve as the equalizer for Waterloo at 15:57. After one period, the Stars were outshot 20-13.

Kyler Kleven gave the Black Hawks their first lead of the game at 15:28 of the second period, moments after Waterloo killed off an extended 5-on-3 power play for Lincoln. After 40 minutes, Lincoln was outshot 29-19 and trailed by a goal.

Legault's shot from the high slot tied the game at three with 3:04 left in regulation, marking his third goal of the season. Aidan Thompson and Noah Laba recorded the assists on the 17-year-old's crucial tally. Despite late rushes from both clubs following Legault's goal, regulation did not solve anything.

After 60 minutes, Lincoln was outshot 38-23.

Max Sasson quickly ended the game 50 seconds into overtime with a shot from just outside the crease. Lincoln has now lost three straight games, but they have picked up a point in the last three contests at the Ice Box (2-0-1). Aidan McCarthy made 36 saves in the loss while Jack Williams stopped 20 shots in the win for Waterloo.

Lincoln killed off all four of the Black Hawks' power plays, but failed to score on five of their own opportunities with the man-advantage.
