Lefty Pitcher Joins Beach Bums

Traverse City MI-- The Traverse City Beach Bums have signed left-handed pitcher Enrique Lechuga.

The Seeley, California native comes to the Beach Bums with two seasons of professional baseball experience in the Chicago White Sox organization. In 2008, Lechuga played for the Great Falls Voyagers in the Pioneer League. He went 0-2 with a 4.36 ERA in 22 games pitched. Lechuga started the 2009 season with Great Falls and picked up three wins in 11 games on the mound. He was then promoted to the Kannapolis Intimidators in the South Atlantic League, where he finished 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA in 12 games.

"Lechuga gives us an experienced left-hander in the starting rotation, and we expect him to log a significant amount of innings this summer," said Beach Bums' Director of Baseball Operations, Jason Wuerfel. "He comes from a baseball family and is a smart pitcher on the mound. He is an excellent addition to what is looking like one of our most talented pitching staffs in team history."

Prior to his professional career, Lechuga played baseball at Arizona Western College and then Concordia University. His best year at Concordia was in 2007, when he went 11-1 with a 2.95 ERA in 16 appearances. Lechuga was named Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Pitcher of the Year.

The Traverse City Beach Bums are entering their fifth season of play in 2010, with the home opener scheduled for Friday, May 28th versus the Oakland County Cruisers. The Beach Bums will play 54 of their 96 games at home in 2010. Season tickets are now on sale -- please phone 231-943-0100.
