Southern Illinois Miners News Release
MARION, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners have announced that all-star first baseman Brad Miller will return in 2010 for his third season with the team. Since joining the Miners midway through the 2008 season, Miller has hit.300 with 18 home runs, 106 RBIs and a.401 on-base percentage.
Miller began the 2009 season with unbelievable numbers, hitting.520 with three homers and 13 RBIs in his first 13 games. He flirted with.400 through late June and was voted the starting first baseman for the West Division All-Stars. In addition, he provided superb defense at first base.
"I'm very excited to get back to Marion to see what we can do this upcoming year," Miller said. "Looking at the offseason moves, it looks like once again everyone one through nine is capable of coming up big so we're not going to rely on just the middle of the order."
He will join leadoff man Jereme Milons, MVP Joey Metropoulos, All-Stars Ernie Banks and Javier Brown, and 2008 on-base percentage league leader Brendan Akashian, all of whom are already on board in a potent lineup.
"Brad has been a big part of our lineup since he came to us in '08," Miners Manager Mike Pinto said. "He carried us with his bat for the first two months of last season. His defensive abilities at first base are among the best I have seen, and his defense has saved runs and games on many occasions that don't show up in the stats. Brad's character and quiet leadership have been a big part of our club. I can't wait to get the guys together and get this season started."
The Miners open the season on May 20 at home against River City. For a complete schedule and the latest news on the Miners and events at Rent One Park, visit www.southernillinoisminers.com.
