Lancaster Stormers News Release

Randy Leek held the Barnstormers to six singles over 6 2/3 innings on Friday evening, pitching the Long Island Ducks to a 3-1 victory in front of 7,281 at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Leek (12-9) was reached for the lone run in the third inning. Vic Gutierrez led off with a sharp rap up the middle, and L.J. Biernbaum steered a ground single into left, putting runners at first and second with nobody out. Josh Johnson twice failed to get a bunt down before striking out for the first out. Lloyd Turner, with the deepest Lancaster fly ball of the night, took Billy Kovatch to the base of the will in right for out number two with Gutierrez taking third. The run scored when Michael Woods hit a dribble up the third base line. Leek looked hurriedly toward home and did not see a play on Gutierrez, then bobbled the ball as Woods was awarded an infield single.

Lancaster threatened the lefty again in the fourth. Reggie Taylor lobbed a single into shallow center, then raced to third with two outs on Gutierrez' second single of the night. Leek got Biernbaum to ground out to second to close the threat.

The Barnstormers never got another runner to third against Leek or relievers Kane Davis and Bill Simas, nor did they ever have two runners on base at the same time again in the game.

Ross Peeples (4-1) threw a quality start for the Barnstormers. After getting seven outs on the first seven batters, the Lancaster southpaw gave up a one-out solo homer to Matt Cavagnaro in the third. One out later, Joey Gathright floated a single over the head of third baseman Aaron Herr, and Bridger Hunt skied a double into the right field corner for a 2-0 lead.

Peeples completed seven innings, yielding five hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out five. A Gathright homer to right off Tim McNab in the eighth was responsible for the Ducks other run.

The two teams meet for the final night game of the 2010 season on Saturday at 6:30. The Barnstormers will send Josh Hall (13-6) to the mound against right-hander Ivan Maldonado. Fireworks will follow the game.
