Louisville Bats News Release
Louisville, KY- The Louisville Bats broke a four-game losing streak with a strong pitching performance from Sam LeCure and a strong offensive performance by Danny Richar. The productivity of LeCure and Richar propelled the Bats to a 6-0 win over the Rochester Red Wings, in front of 6,822 fans at Louisville Slugger Field.
The Bats got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on newly acquired Drew Sutton's 395-foot home run. The home run was the first one of Sutton's Bats' career. Sutton, who entered the game hitting .500 (4-8), finished the game 1-4 with a RBI.
Rochester threatened in the third inning. Lecure (2-2, 3.77) retired the first two batters but then the Wings Jason Pridie singled to center. Following an inning-extending error by the Bats' Chris Valaika, LeCure showed great damage control by forcing Luke Hughes to fly out to center. LeCure went a season-high seven scoreless innings, retiring eight straight following Dustin Martin's single in the fourth. He gave up five hits and struck out eight
In the Louisville half of the third the Bats played add-on. Craig Tatum led off with a single and was knocked in on Danny Richar's first home run of the year. The Bats loaded the bases with one out on hits by Hopper and Stubbs and an intentional walk to Jonny Gomes. However, the Bats could not capitalize as Wes Bankston and Chris Valaika popped up to end the threat.
The Bats added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the fifth as Jonny Gomes homered in his third straight game. This is the first time he has done so since April 22-25, 2006 while playing for Tampa Bay.
The Red Wings pushed across their only run in the top of the eighth inning on a single by Jason Pridie followed by a double by Tommy Watkins, who entered the game in bottom of the seventh defensively.
The loss was penned on Rochester's starting pitcher Philip Humber. Humber (1-1, 5.06) went 3.2 innings allowing five runs on eight hits, including two home runs, two walks and four strikeouts.
The homestand continues tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. against the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees. The probable starters are RHP Homer Bailey (3-2, 4.61) for the Bats and RHP Eric Hacker (0-1, 7.50) for the Yankees.
