Calgary Vipers News Release

Giving up four runs in the top of the ninth inning the Calgary Vipers (44-25) were defeated 6-5 by the Chico Outlaws (37-38) before 2298 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Calgary lead the game 4-2 with three outs left to get but Claudio Galva (0-2) blew the save by allowing all four runs on five hits. The loss spoiled a strong start from Mark Michael who tossed six and two-third innings while allowing two runs. At the plate meanwhile Calgary collected four solo home runs. With the loss the Vipers six game winning streak comes to an end and their lead atop the North Division drops to two games.

Chico opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Jake Rife hit a solo home run for a 1-0 lead.

Calgary responded in the bottom of the second as C.J. Ziegler doubled, advanced to third base on a Chad Ehrnsberger fly out, and scored on a Lino Garcia sacrifice fly for a 1-1 tie.

In the fourth frame the Vipers took the lead at 2-1 when Ehrnsberger went deep with his second home run of the season.

The Outlaws tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning as Bobby Hill, Brian McFall, and Rife hit three consecutive singles.

Quickly Calgary answered in the bottom of the sixth when Ziegler went deep for his 20th home run of the season and a 3-2 advantage.

The Vipers increased their lead to 4-2 in the seventh frame as Justin Tellam went deep for his sixth home run of the season.

Chico rallied in the top of the ninth inning when Matt Hibbert followed by Al Quintana singled, Jay Pecci was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Danny Gonzalez tied the game with a two-run single, while Hill and Rife both drove in a run each with a base hit each for a 6-4 lead.

Tellam went deep again for Calgary in the bottom of the ninth for his seventh home run of the season and a 6-5 final score.
