Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - After going without a lead in the first two games of their series against the Rome Braves, the Savannah Sand Gnats never trailed on their way to a 7-0 victory Saturday night in front of a crowd of 3,077 at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats (12-17/53-42) scored in six of their eight turns at bat Saturday.

Savannah began the scoring in the bottom of the first on a two-run triple over the head of Braves CF Tony Mueller from 3B Dustin Lawley. Lawley tripled, doubled and singled in his first three at-bats, finishing 3-for-5 and a home run shy of the cycle. He doubled and scored in the fourth inning on SS Matt Reynolds' RBI single to put Savannah ahead 3-0.

The Gnats chased Rome (16-13/34-65) starter David Starn with a two-run fifth inning that began with doubles by CF Gilbert Gomez and C Cam Maron. Gomez reached base three times on a triple, a double and a walk.

Savannah starter Jimmy Fuller shutout the Braves on one-hit through his six innings. He walked two and struck out four to pick up his third win of 2012.

The Gnats added single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to complete the game's scoring.

Savannah will look for a split of the four-game series Sunday at 2:05 pm when RHP Domingo Tapia (4-2, 3.82) takes on LHP Fabian Williamson (0-1, 2.65). Gates at Historic Grayson Stadium open at 1 pm. The radio broadcast, presented by Subway, begins on News/Talk 630 and online at 1:45 pm.
