Calgary, AB - August 3rd, 2011 - Hockey Canada announced Tuesday that Oshawa Generals forward Scott Laughton was among the 22 players named to Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 Team that will compete at the 2011 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament, August 8-13 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.

The roster was finalized Tuesday following Hockey Canada's four-day selection camp at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary. The camp included daily practices and three Red-White intersquad games.

Laughton was on Team Red for all three of their victories and registered 8 minutes in penalties over the three intersquad games.

"We are thrilled for Scott that he was named to Team Canada," said Generals Head Coach and General Manager Chris DePiero. "He made this his goal for this off-season and to see him reach it is special."

The Oakville, Ontario native is coming off an excellent rookie campaign with the Generals where he scored 12 goals and added 11 assists for 23 points in 63 games this past season.

Laughton was the Generals 1st round pick, 3rd overall in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection and also added one goal and two points in ten playoff games this past year.

"From a team perspective, it will be a great experience for Scott much like it was for Boone (Jenner) and Lucas (Lessio) last year when they represented Canada. He will come back with a new level of competiveness into our camp later this month."

Canada has won the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament three straight years, and has won 15 of 20 summer under-18 tournaments since 1991. It will play in Group A in Breclav with the Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland. Group B, which consists of Finland, Russia, Slovakia and the United States, will play out of Piestany.

Canada will face Slovakia in a pre-tournament game in Piestany on Saturday, August 6 before opening the tournament against Sweden on Monday, August 8. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals on Friday, August 13, with the gold medal game scheduled for Saturday, August 14.
