Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that sophomore forwards Gemel Smith and Jarrod Maidens have been selected to participate on Canada's entry at the 2011 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament, August 8-13 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.

Smith, a sixth round selection in the 2010 Ontario Hockey League priority selection was an impressive standout at training camp, playing his way onto the roster. In 66 games played, the Toronto native tallied eight goals and eight assists while finishing an impressive +8. At only 16 years old, Gemel's shifty skating ability already makes him one of the fastest players on the Attack squad at just sixteen years old.

Maidens was the Attack's first round selection (4th overall) in the 2010 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. The 6'02, 170lb winger notched ten regular season goals and eleven assists for twenty-one points in 47 games played. In the playoffs, Maidens continued to contribute when he tallied six goals in twenty-two playoff games while finishing with a +7 rating. Of the sixteen goals Maidens scored throughout the season, none were bigger than his game seven overtime goal which saw the Attack capture their first ever Ontario Hockey League crown.

The Attack wish to congratulate Jarrod and Gemel and wish them the best of luck while representing Owen Sound and Canada.
