Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes, members of the North American Hockey League, are proud to announce that forwards Lukas Laub and Razmuz Waxin-Engback have been chosen to represent the Jacks in the 2014 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Troy, MI.
Laub, who spent Christmas break in Sweden at the World Junior Championships representing Germany, leads the Jacks in goals (9) and points (17).
"Luki has been great for us this season," said Jackalopes Head Coach Matt Cressman. "His speed is what makes him a game changer. You can't teach that. He brings that dynamic to our team every night,"
The Jacks will also send Swedish born Razmuz Waxin-Engback to Top Prospects. Waxin-Engback has four goals and six assists this season in 37 games but to Cressman, he's much more valuable on the defensive side of the puck.
"He's our best defensive forward," touted Cressman. "You just do not see too many players come through this level that are as complete as he is. He's great on faceoffs, excellent in the corners, and he is not afraid to throw the body either."
Because of the Jacks position in the South Division standings, Laub and Waxin-Engback will compete with the Central Division at the Tournament. Something Matt Cressman thinks the Jacks pair should relish, "It is a unique opportunity for our guys to play with some of the stars from another division. The camaraderie between the players at this tournament is second to none, and it should be a great experience for them."
In its seventh season, the NAHL Top Prospects tournament is attended each year by over 200 scouts from the NHL, AHL, NCAA division I, and NCAA division III and serves as a launching pad for NAHL players to jump into the collegiate and professional ranks.
Laub and Waxin-Engback join former Jacks Josh Obregon (Johnson & Wales ECAC, DIII), Mikko Virtanen (Neumann ECAC, DII), Jalen Krogman (University of Oklahoma ACHA, DIII), Zane Popilock (uncommitted), Matt Volonnino (uncommitted) who have competed in this 2-day event from the Troy Sports Center in Troy, MI.
The games will be broadcast on FASTHockey.com live from Troy. To view the start times of the games, click on the 2014 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament Schedule
