Vosejpka's Four Points Vault Wildcats Past Brahmas

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Behind their second-highest offensive output of the season, the Wichita Falls Wildcats (22-16-3) battered the Lone Star Brahmas, 7-2, at the Kay Yeager Coliseum on Wednesday.
Will Vosejpka led the attack with two goals and two assists, while Rudy Junda and Kirk Van Arkel both had two goals and an assist. Kyle Bauman also had a strong night, with a goal and two assists, while Jake Townsend added to assists of his own.
After a scoreless first 14 minutes, the Wildcats offense went to work, opening up a three-goal lead in less than two minutes.
Vosejpka opened the scoring at 14:04 of the first, cleaning up a loose puck in the high slot after Stan Sojka's centering feed kicked off Bauman's skate. Moments later, Vosejpka doubled his tally and the Wildcats advantage, putting Junda's feed from the behind the net past TJ Black. Van Arkel capped off the three-goal flourish, burying the puck after Bauman's initial shot was blocked. The goal was Van Arkel's fourth of the year, coming at 16:01 of the first.
Wichita Falls put the finishing touches on a dominating first period with a power play tally with just two seconds left. Vosejpka turned provider this time, playing a pass from the corner up to Junda just inside the blue line. Junda held momentarily, then fired an effort that pinballed past the Brahma netminder to make it 4-0.
The second period featured more of the same for Wichita Falls, with Colin Staub hitting the post and Evan Okeley putting an effort wide highlighting a multitude of high-quality scoring chances for the Wildcats.
Wichita Falls expanded its lead at 14:17 of the second thanks to a spilled rebound. Jett Salinas, who replaced Black in the first period, fought off Vosejpka's shot from above the circle, but could not corral the loose puck, allowing Junda to alertly tuck the disc into an open net for his second of the evening.
Late in the frame, Lone Star picked up a tally, as Paul Fregeau cleaned up a rebound in close to make it 5-1 at 19:27 of second.
Wichita Falls added two more in the third period sandwiched around a Lone Star goal by Ryan Watson. Bauman and Van Arkel found the back of the net, with the latter's tally marking his first two-goal game as a member of the Wildcats, as the game ended 7-2.
David Zevnik made 24 saves on 26 shots for his 14th win of the season, as the Wildcats broke a six-game losing skid with the win.

NOTES: The Wildcats are 4-1 against Lone Star this season, and have now outscored the Brahmas 26-8 in those contests...With his four point effort, Will Vosejpka now has 10 points in five games against Lone Star this season...Wednesday's contest marked the first time this season the Wildcats have had three players score multiple goals in the same game.
