Johnstown Tomahawks News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Tomahawks are proud to announce that defenseman Jacob Houston has officially been tendered by the team for the 2014-15 season. Houston appeared in both games against Michigan this past weekend, earning his first point on an assist in Friday night's game against the Michigan Warriors.
Before coming to Johnstown, Houston appeared in 32 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Midget Major team, leading all defensemen with 12 points (1G-11A). Houston played for the Penguins Elite during the 2012-13 season as well, scoring 10 points (1G-9A) in 40 games. He has been on the radar for the coaching staff since they saw him during a trip to Michigan earlier this season. "Since scouting Jake in November at the Troy Tier 1 Elite League showcase he has been at the top of our list of recruits. He came to practice with us shortly after and did a really nice job and we made sure to make him one of our affiliate players," said Tomahawks assistant coach Mike Letizia.
Houston sealed the deal with the coaching staff by agreeing to suit up for this past weekend's games. "From our standpoint, he did not just fit in, he stood out in a positive way. As a staff we wanted to make sure we locked him up with a tender as we feel he has the potential to be a big member of the Tomahawks organization moving forward," said Letizia. Houston is the fifth player to tender with the Tomahawks this season, and he joins Luke Lynch as members of the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Midget Major team who have signed tenders with the Tomahawks.
The Tomahawks travel to Port Huron this Friday and Saturday for a pair of 7 p.m. games against the Fighting Falcons. The team is off the following weekend, before returning home to take on the Michigan Warriors Feb. 14 &15.
