Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
BATHURST, NB - A seven goal third period propelled the Acadie-Bathurst Titan over the Saint John Sea Dogs on Friday night at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre in Bathurst. Final score Acadie-Bathurst 7, Saint John 1.
Saint John opened the game with one of their better first periods of the season so far, although neither team was able to get the all important first goal. Saint John had first stab on the power play at 2:51 when the Titan were called for too many men on the ice. The Titan then had their turn on the man advantage after James White was called for interference at 13:18. The Dogs penalty kill was excellent holding the Titan without a shot for the two minutes. The opening period shots favored the Sea Dogs, 9-6.
The second period opened with the Sea Dogs taking their own too many men penalty but again their penalty kill came through to keep the game tied. It didn't stay tied for long though as Yohan Plamondon scored his first goal of the year at 14:16 on a two-on-one accompanied by Robbie Burt. Plamondon went five-hole on Grametbauer as he slid post to post, putting the Dogs up 1-0. The Titan returned to the power play but Alex D'Orio played the hero shutting the door on several chances in close for the Titan to keep the Sea Dogs' lead secure as they headed into the third. Shots on goal were lead by the Titan, 10-9.
The Sea Dogs were able to kill off another penalty to open the third period but the tide soon turned in favor of the Titan. Cole Rafuse had a point shot sneak through traffic and find the back of the net at 7:01 to tie the game 1-1. William Poirier was called for a high sticking double minor at 8:16 that proved to be costly. Cole Rafuse scored his second of the game at 8:21 after walking out front alone. Less than a minute later New York Islander prospect Noah Dobson snapped a wrister over the blocker of Alex D'Orio on the power play to put the Titan ahead 3-1. The Titan took full advantage of the momentum swing and potted another at 12:08 from Alexandre David. The Dogs pulled Alex D'Orio for the extra skater with just over four minutes to go in the game and again the Titan capitalized as Dobson scored his second of the game on the empty net. Cypihot and Cianflone added two more in the game's final minute for a final score of 7-1 Titan. Shots on goal in the period were 14-14.
Mark Grametbauer stopped 31 for the Titan. Alex D'orio had 23 saves for Saint John.
