
Late Rally Propels Mets Past Hammerheads, 7-4

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets broke a 4-4 tie by scoring three runs in the seventh inning to beat the Jupiter Hammerhead 7-4 on Friday at Clover Park.
Francisco Alvarez started the rally with a leadoff double. Warren Saunders followed with the go-ahead single to plate Alvarez for a 5-4 lead. Jose Colina and LT Struble hit back-to-back clutch two-out RBI singles to extend the lead to 7-4.
Reliever Justin Lasko was credited with the win. He struck out seven Hammerheads over four innings. Willy Taveras pitched a hitless eighth and Reyson Santos worked a perfect ninth to earn his first save.
Starter Junior Santos fanned four in three innings. All told, the four Mets pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts.
Jupiter took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Alvarez quickly answered in the bottom of the first inning with a long solo home run to left-center field.
Struble tied the game in the second with a RBI double.
Branden Fryman ripped a low line drive two-run homer in the fifth inning to put the Mets in front 4-2.
Jupiter's Diowill Burgos answered with a tying two-run home run in the top of the sixth.
Alvarez went 2 for 3 with a home run, double, two walks and two runs scored. He reached base in four of five plate appearances for the second time in three games.
Struble went 2 for 4 with two RBI in his first start of the season. Saunders was 2 for 3 with a walk, RBI and run. Colina went 2 for 4 with a RBI.
The Mets (3-1) and Hammerheads (1-3) meet again on Saturday. First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m. There will be postgame fireworks at Clover Park.
