Hagerstown Suns News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ -The Hagerstown Suns (25-42), on the strength of great pitching and a five-run top of the ninth inning, defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws (40-27) 5-2 on Friday night.

Cole Kimball started the game for the Suns and was very effective for seven innings, though he did not factor into the decision. Kimball allowed just one run on two hits while striking out six hitters.

The lone run against Kimball came in the bottom of the fourth inning as a lead-off walk to Herman Demmink was followed two batters later by an RBI double from Matt Rizzotti, giving Lakewood a 1-0 lead.

Mike Cisco, the BlueClaws starter, also lasted seven innings and allowed just one run on five hits. The right hander also struck out seven batters without issuing a walk.

The Suns tied the game in the top of the fifth inning as Travis Reagan singled, advanced to third on a single by Jake Rogers and scored on a base hit by Mark Gildea.

Hagerstown finally broke through in the top of the ninth inning against Lakewood reliever Reymond Cruz (0-2). Cruz allowed singles by Tim Pahuta, and Jesus Valdez to start the inning before Blake Stouffer drove in the Pahuta with a single of his own.

Cruz then retired Reagan before hitting Robbie Jacobsen to load the bases. Jake Rogers, the Suns third baseman, then hit a bases clearing triple to left-centerfield, giving the Suns a 5-1 lead.

Suns reliever Ryan Harrison (4-2) allowed one run on two hits in the bottom of the ninth inning before closing the door and giving Hagerstown the 5-2 win.

Harrison picked up the win with two innings of relief while Cruz took the loss.

The Suns will now return to Hagerstown for the final three games of the 2008 season against the Lake County Captains. Game one of the series will start at 7:05 P.M. on Saturday, August 30th.
