Omaha Lancers News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - In the final game of a three-game road trip, the Omaha Lancers entered the third period trailing on the scoreboard for the second consecutive night but found a way to rally late in a 3-2 win over the Indiana Ice on Saturday at Bankers Life Field House in Indianapolis. With the win, the Lancers improved to 7-1-0 and with 14 points, sit alone atop the USHL's Western Conference standings, one point clear of the Sioux Falls Stampede.
After the opening period slid by scoreless, the Ice struck first as Scott Conway buried a breakaway score just shy of the mid-way mark of regulation to make it 1-0 Indiana. In need of a punch-back to start the final frame, the Lancers got it from Union College recruit and Assistant Captain Tyler Hynes in the period's first minute, a game-tying score that was assisted by Jimmy Schuldt.
Later in the period, leading USHL scorer Jake Randolph potted his fourth goal of the season at 12:25 on slick transition feeds from Tyler Vesel and Gage Hough to hoist the Lancers to their first advantage of the game at 2-1. Five minutes later, an opportunistic wraparound score from Hough looked to be an insurance marker, but after Indiana's Tyler Pham buried a one-timer with just three seconds left in the game, Hough's marker proved the game-winning tally.
After Lancers goaltender Cole Bruns started the season 6-1-0 following Friday's 5-3 win in Chicago, Parker, Colorado native Hayden Hawkey finally got his shot in the Omaha cage on Saturday and impressed, turning in a stellar 29-save performance in his USHL debut.
Next up for the Lancers, it's a Friday road clash at 7:05 pm at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa in the first meeting between the Lancers and Sioux City Musketeers this season. Full coverage of Friday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 6:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
