Indiana Ice News Release
Saturday night saw the Western Conference -leading Omaha Lancers ride into Indianapolis for their one and only visit to the Circle City. The Lancers used three third-period tallies to edge the Ice before over 3,000 fans at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in the 3-2 decision.
The Ice were hoping to capitalize on a tired Omaha team who were wrapping up their Eastern Conference road trip following their Friday-night tango in the Windy City against the winless Chicago Steel.
Adding to their hope was the benching of the league's leading goaltender, Cole Bruns who had posted five consecutive shutouts and six out of seven victories to start the season.
Following a scoreless first period that saw the Ice out-shoot Omaha 7-2, Indiana scored their first at the 9:25 mark of the second stanza. Scott Conway had just stepped onto the ice after serving his two minute slashing penalty. Tyler Andrew sent a rink-wide pass that Conway caught in full stride. He went in alone against Hayden Hawkey and beat him with a high backhand for the early lead with his 3rd goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Ice holding a decisive advantage in the shots-on-goal category, 22-8.
However, the third period was all Omaha. Less than a minute into the frame, Tyler Hynes got the Lancers on the board as he beat Ice goalie Jason Pawloski on the short side.
The teams remained tied until the league's scoring leader, Jake Randolph, notched his fourth goal (and 15th point) of the season, putting Omaha in front for good at the 12:25 mark. A little more than five minutes later, Randolph would assist on linemate Gage Hough's sixth goal of the season.
The Ice did manage to make it interesting with only 3.7 seconds left in the game. With the goal pulled for an extra attacker, Tyler Pham scored his first of the year on a beautiful centering pass from Joseph Sullivan.
Ice home power-play is now 0 for 14 in their first 3 games.
Indy continues on their seven-game home stretch on Saturday as the Ice host the Dubuque Fighting Saints from Pan Am Pavilion at 7:05 pm.
