Peoria Chiefs News Release
Beloit, WI - The Beloit Sky Carp scored in each of the final four innings to pull away from the Chiefs 10-2 on Saturday.
After Peoria scored in the opening inning each of the last two nights, it was Beloit who scored in the first tonight. Cody Morissette hit a solo homer off Peoria starter Dionys Rodriguez to jump out to a quick 1-0 lead. Rodriguez, who was looking for his first win of the season, then settled in quite nicely. The right-hander retired 12 straight Beloit batters at one time.
The Chiefs offense got the game back to even in the fifth. With two outs in the inning, Tommy Jew doubled over the head of Beloit right fielder Tanner Allen to tie the game, 1-1.
In the home half of the fifth, Beloit's offense finally cracked the code against Rodriguez, who was on cruise control. The Sky Carp loaded the bases, before a Nasim Nunez single made it 3-1. Then, after Levi Prater entered the contest, Morissette collected his second RBI with a single of his own, pushing the Beloit lead to 4-1.
Trailing by three, Peoria again scratched a run in the sixth as they tried to hang around. Francisco Hernandez doubled home Mike Antico to make it a 4-2 game. For Hernandez, it was the third straight game in which he collected an RBI.
After a sac fly gave Beloit a 5-2 lead, Victor Mesa Jr. put the game away in the seventh with a three-run homer off the batter's eye in center field. Beloit tacked on two more runs in the eighth to create the final tally.
The Chiefs will still have the opportunity to clinch the series tomorrow, when Austin Love goes to the mound for the second time in the series. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. Fans can listen to the hometown call with Cody Schindler online at peoriachiefs.com.
