Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Home runs by Michael Curry and Eguy Rosario powered the Missions to their second consecutive win Friday night, a 4-1 decision over the Hooks before 3,811 fans at Wolff Stadium.
The setback spoiled a fine start by Tyler Brown who matched his season-best with 6 2/3 innings pitched.
The Missions managed their first run in the second. Kyle Overstreet cracked a lead-off single and later scored when Chandler Seagle was struck by a 2-2 breaking ball with the bases full.
After leaving them loaded on the second, Brown proceeded to record 14 consecutive outs on 47 pitches. Curry snapped the string and a 1-1 tie with a one-out solo blast to left in the seventh, his eighth of the year and fourth against Corpus Christi.
Brown struck out seven against three hits and one walk, while throwing 62 of 89 pitches for strikes.
Rosario added insurance in the eighth, swatting a two-out, two-run home run to left against Matt Ruppenthal.
David Hensley plated the lone run for CC, thanks to two-out RBI single in the third.
Missions left-hander MacKenzie Gore was forced to exit the ballgame after throwing 86 pitches over four frames.
Carlos Belen (2.0), James Reeves (1.0) and Nick Kuzia (2.0) blanked the Hooks the rest of the way.
Corpus Christi aims for a 3-2 lead in the series Saturday night with Angel Macuare on the mound. First pitch 7:05.
