Long Island Ducks News Release
(Bridgewater, N.J.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 4-1 Sunday night in the final game of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.
The Patriots got things started in the bottom half of the first inning, when they took a 1-0 lead on Mike Ohlman's sacrifice fly to left.
Things stayed that way as there would be no more scoring until the top of the eighth inning. T.J Rivera launched a two-run home run to left to give the Ducks the 2-1 lead. Long Island was not done though; later in the inning Daniel Fields hit a one-out RBI single to right, bringing the Ducks lead to 3-1. The Flock picked up an insurance run in the ninth when Rey Fuentes drilled a solo home run over the wall in right.
Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision. Seth Simmons threw six innings of one-run ball for Long Island, allowing three hits and five walks, while striking out seven Patriots. Somerset starter Liam O'Sullivan tossed six scoreless innings, scattering six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Rob Rogers (2-1) picked up the win for the Ducks, pitching two scoreless innings in relief, yielding three hits and a walk, while striking out two. Zech Zinicola (3-2) was tagged with the loss, surrendering three runs on one hit and a walk in one-third of an inning out of the bullpen. Michael Tonkin earned his fourth save of the season, throwing a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts.
The Ducks continue their road series on Tuesday night in the opening game a three-game series against the New Britain Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from New Britain Stadium. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Live streaming video and audio will be available via BoxCast on LIDucks.com, Facebook Live and the Ducks official YouTube channel.
