Revolution Take Sunday Matinee Rubber Game From Bees

(York, PA) - The York Revolution (11-5, 45-40) defeated the New Britain Bees (6-10, 41-44) 19-1 at PEOPLESBank Park on Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of a three-game weekend series and finale of New Britain's seven-game, two state road trip as the boys from the Hardware City finish with an overall record of 4-3.

New Britain starting pitcher Cory Riordan (4-5) was tagged with the loss after surrendering 19 runs (15 earned runs) on 18 hits (six home runs) in four and two-thirds innings pitched, walking one while striking out two. York starting pitcher Mitch Atkins (6-4) earned the win, allowing just one run on five hits (one home run) in eight innings of work, striking out five in the process.

York sent 11 batters to the plate in the last of the first inning, scoring seven runs on eight hits to take an immediate 7-0 lead, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Melky Mesa. 13 more Revolution men stepped into the batter's box in the middle of the fifth as the home team plated eight more runs to open up a 19-0 advantage with Mesa the hitting star once again as he launched his third four-bagger of the ballgame, a three-run shot versus Riordan, part of a four-hit performance on the day for the power-hitting outfielder. In the top of the sixth, New Britain was finally able to crack the scoreboard against Atkins as Bijan Rademacher lifted a solo tater to right for his 11th roundtripper of the campaign, ending a streak in which Atkins had retired 12 in a row and 17 of the first 18 New Britain men he faced. With one out in the seventh, Jason Rogers laced his 19th double of the campaign into the gap in left centerfield, extending his on-base streak to a season-high 28 consecutive games overall. On the relief side of the coin, Anthony Alicki finished things off by tossing thee and one-third innings of scoreless baseball on just a pair of hits given up in 15 total batters faced. Rademacher and Mike Carp each had two hits en route to the loss.

The Bees return to New Britain Stadium on Tuesday, July 30th when they welcome the 2019 First Half Liberty Division Champion Long Island Ducks to the Hardware City for a three-game midweek series while also kicking off a six-game homestand.
