Atlantic City, N.J. - CF Lucas Taylor's two-run single in the bottom of the eighth was the difference as the Atlantic City Surf defeated the Ottawa Rapidz, 7-6, in a back-and-forth Can-Am League affair in front of 2,895 at Bernie Robbins Stadium on Monday night, the home opener for the Surf.

Atlantic City (3-2) tallied the game's first two runs in the third inning, with 2B David Keesee scoring on a throwing error by Rapidz' 3B Juan Infante, and Anthony Granato adding an RBI double. The Surf made the lead 3-0 with a solo shot by DH Eddie Kim in the fourth, the first home run by Atlantic City this season.

Ottawa (1-4) came back with four in the sixth, with C Kyle Geiger coming home on a wild pitch before LF Jereme Milons blasted a three-run homer, his first of the season. After Kim singled home a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game up, Ottawa made it a 6-4 game in the seventh, with Geiger scoring on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, and Milons hitting an RBI single.

Atlantic City halved the Rapidz' lead in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Granato, before Taylor's heroics put the Surf ahead and gave Ryan Rafferty (1-0) the win in relief.

In his first start of the season for the Surf, Jim Wladyka went six innings, giving up four runs on five hits and striking out three. Ottawa starter Fraser Robinson also received a no-decision, allowing two earned runs and striking out four in six innings of work. Dallas Strankman (0-1) was saddled with the loss for the Rapidz.

Kim was the only Atlantic City player with more than one hit on the evening; his 3-for-4 evening marked his first three hits of the season. Geiger, Milons and 2B Jose de los Santos each had three hits for Ottawa.

The two teams return to action Tuesday night for the second of three games. Brian Rodaway starts for the Surf, while Mike Kusiewicz is on the hill for the Rapidz.
