
Late Inning Offense Gives RailCats a 9-7 Victory over the RedHawks

FARGO, ND - Despite a five-run fifth inning and a late rally, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (10-12) fell short in a 9-7 loss to the Gary-SouthShore RailCats (14-8) on Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RailCats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before the RedHawks crushed five runs on five hits in the fifth inning, including Charlie Valerio's eighth home run of the year, to give the RedHawks their first lead in the ballgame.
Maikol Gonzalez and Keury De La Cruz also had RBIs in the fifth inning. The RedHawks chased the RailCats starter Alex Gunn out of the decision as he gave up eight hits while striking out three and walking one in 4.2 innings of work.
However, the RailCats answered with four runs in the eighth inning to take an 8-5 lead off Jose Nivar. Nivar gave up three runs on three hits in one inning on the mound. He got the loss for the RedHawks.
DJ Brown gave up four earned runs in five innings on the mound in his fifth start of the year. Brown remains 2-0 with a 3.44 record. In 31.1 innings pitched.
The RedHawks will head to St. Paul tomorrow for a three-game series with the North Division-leading St. Paul Saints (14-7). First pitch for Monday night's game is scheduled for 7:05 PM and can be heard on 740AM The Fan with Jack Michaels on the broadcast.
