Green Bay, Wis. - After playing two games in Kenosha, the Green Bay Bullfrogs and Kenosha Kingfish started a two-game series on Thursday in Green Bay. With the Bullfrogs ahead by a score of 2-0, the Kingfish hit a three-run home run for their only runs of the night and held on to defeat Green Bay on Thursday, 3-2.
In the seventh inning, Kenosha's Taylor Douglas (UT-Martin) hit a three-run home run that not only plated the first runs of the game for the Kingfish, but gave them a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning. All three runs from the home run were unearned.
P.J. Schuster (SIUE) threw the final three innings to earn a nine-out save for the Kingfish after Douglas' home run. Schuster struck out six Bullfrogs while not surrendering a hit or a run.
Steven Klimek (St. Bonaventure) picked up the win for Kenosha. Klimek threw a scoreless sixth inning out of the bullpen and gave up just one hit.
Roberto Baroniel (Nova Southeastern) took the loss for the Bullfrogs on Thursday. Baroniel gave up the three-run home run in the seventh but did not allow an earned run over seven innings. Baroniel also struck out a season-high eleven batters on Thursday night.
Before Kenosha took a 3-2 lead, the Bullfrogs started the scoring in the second inning. Ryan Howell (Chabot) reached on a walk before taking second base on a fielder's choice. After a balk sent Howell to third base, Brian Celsi (California) laid down a perfect bunt that scored Howell and gave Celsi an RBI single.
Green Bay added their second run of the game in the fifth inning. Celsi led the inning off with a single and then advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Matthew de la Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne). After a fielder's choice put Celsi at third base, Dean Long (Emporia State) came through with an RBI single that scored Celsi and put Green Bay up 2-0 after five innings.
The Bullfrogs and Kingfish will now finish their two-game series at Joannes Stadium on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Green Bay.
