Late Goals Doom RiverKings In Face Off Field Trip

(Southaven, MS) -- Joe Ori's power play goal mid-way through the final period provided the winning margin in Bossier-Shreveport's 2-1 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings in a mid-day game played before thousands of area youngsters during the RiverKings' sixth annual Face Off Field Trip, on Tuesday, January 27th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.

The win moved the Mudbugs into first place in the Northeast Division and pushed the RiverKings into a second place tie with Oklahoma City, two points behind Bossier-Shreveport. Mississippi took the lead in the contest, when Bobby Chaumont scored his 23rd goal of the year, assisted by Louis Dumont and Andrew Lackner, at 13:23 of the first period.

The game remained that way until the Mudbugs broke through in the third period on a goal from David Pszenyczny at the 8:32 mark. Bossier-Shreveport scored again two minutes later at 10:32 on the Ori power play goal that became the game winning goal. Mississippi out shot the Mudbugs by a 40-28 margin, as winning goaltender Ken Carroll (14-5-2) stopped 39 shots in the posting the victory. Kevin Beech (20-10-1) took the loss with a 26-save performance.

Today's game was part of an annual special event the RiverKings provide to area school children as an educational experience partnership with schools in DeSoto County, Shelby County, and Memphis City School district. Thousands of youngsters came to view the game and the RiverKings took advantage of the opportunity to support basic educational components through activities the team pre-produced and presented in the event.

Mississippi is back home to play the Rapid City Rush this Saturday night, after taking on the Brahmas in Texas on Friday.
