Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday that they have acquired defenseman Matt Hanson from the Texas Brahmas in exchange for future considerations.

Hanson, 26, appeared in 41 games for the Southeast Division-leading Brahmas this season, tallying one goal, four assists and 31 penalty minutes (PIM) before being acquired by Arizona. The 5-foot-11, 215-pound blue-liner recorded a goal and an assist during a three-game set against the Sundogs at Tim's Toyota Center in mid-December.

Other than a two-game stint with the ECHL's Bakersfield Condors last season, the Penticton, British Columbia native has spent his entire professional career in the CHL. In 151 contests with the Wichita Thunder, Youngstown SteelHounds, Tulsa Oilers and Brahmas, Hanson has recorded 18 goals, 30 assists and 123 PIM.

His best pro season came during the 2005-06 campaign while with Wichita and Youngstown, where he set career-highs in goals (11), assists (16), points (27) and PIM (48).

Prior to turning pro, Hanson played three seasons of collegiate hockey for the University of Alaska-Anchorage (NCAA), collecting 26 points (10g/16a) and 56 PIM in 71 games. His 10 career goals rank tenth all-time among defensemen at the university.

The Sundogs (17-21-3), in the midst of a three-week homestand, begin a three-game set against the Rocky Mountain Rage Wednesday night at 7:05pm (Arizona time) at Tim's Toyota Center. Tickets start at just $14 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.gettix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
