Late Fourth Quarter Rally Propels Sun Over Wings, 88-83

Arlington, TX - Tonight, the Connecticut Sun (18-6) defeated the Dallas Wings (13-10), 88-83. The Sun lead the season series, 2-0.

The Sun was led by DeWanna Bonner who tallied 32 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in the come from behind victory. Tiffany Hayes added a season-high 28 points, four rebounds and five assists.

1Q- The Sun led the Wings, 15-12, heading into the first media timeout of the contest. Rebecca Allen and Hayes each had five points in the opening five minutes. Nine of Connecticut's first 15 points came from beyond the arc. Each team tallied 12 points to finish out the first quarter, with the Sun taking a 27-24 lead into the second. Hayes notched 11 points, one rebound and two assists to lead Connecticut through ten minutes of action.

2Q- Connecticut opened the second quarter on a quick 5-0 spurt, pushing their lead up to eight, 32-24 and forcing Dallas into a timeout with 8:31 remaining in the first half. Bonner had all five of the Sun's points on that stretch. The Wings responded on a 7-6 run, prompting the Sun to take a timeout with 5:11 to go in the quarter, 38-31. Dallas continued their run and after leading by as many as 12 in the first half, the Sun trailed the Wings, 42-40, heading into the locker room.

Bonner led Connecticut with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals after two quarters of action. Hayes added 13 points, two rebounds and two assists in the first. The Wings outrebounded the Sun, 19-17, in the first half, including 5-4 on the offensive boards. Dallas had 10 second chance points to Connecticut's five through twenty minutes.

3Q- Dallas opened the second half outscoring Connecticut, 14-9, to push their lead up to seven, 56-49, with 4:31 remaining in the third. Natisha Hiedeman had four of the Sun's nine points in the opening minutes of the second half. After trailing by as many as nine in the third quarter, the Sun cut the Wings' lead to one, 64-63, heading into the fourth. Hayes notched 12 points in the third quarter to lead Connecticut.

4Q- The Wings led the Sun, 75-69, with 5:41 remaining in the fourth. Dallas outscored Connecticut 11-6 to begin the quarter. Connecticut rattled off five quick points to cut Dallas's lead back to one, 75-74, with 4:57 remaining in the contest. The Sun finished the contest on a 13-9 run to take home an 88-83 victory. Bonner tallied 13 of her 32 points in the fourth quarter to propel Connecticut to victory.

Dallas was led by Arike Ogunbowale who notched 25 points, two rebounds and three assists in the effort.

Connecticut shot 43.9% (29-66) from the field, while holding Dallas to 40.8% (31-76) from the floor on the night.

Sun Notes:

Alyssa Thomas filled in the stat sheet tallying eight points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

With 32 points on the night, DeWanna Bonner moved into 11th all-time in scoring in franchise history, passing Renee Montgomery (1,814).

Olivia Nelson-Ododa eclipsed 200 career-point in the win (203).

The Sun let up a season-high 18 offensive rebounds to the Wings.

Olivia Nelson-Ododa tallied a career-high tying three steals.

DeWanna Bonner went 11-11 from the free throw line, while Tiffany Hayes was a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe.
