Last Week around the Leagues

Last week Seattle Sounders FC won the Major League Soccer Cup for the second time in club history, the NBA G League tipped off its 19th season with a record 28 teams, and the National Lacrosse League announced it will play its first ever game in Las Vegas. Highlights from this week are from Major League Soccer, the National Women's Soccer League, Canadian Football League, American Hockey League, Southern Professional Hockey League and NBA G League.

SOCCER

Major League Soccer

Sounders FC won the 2019 MLS Cup with a 3-1 win over Toronto FC at CenturyLink Field. The crowd of 69,274 provided the largest standalone attendance for a sporting event in the history of CenturyLink Field

Here are the highlights of the game.

Honoring a banner season of record-breaking goalscoring and team accolades, Major League Soccer announced Los Angeles Football Club forward Carlos Vela as the 2019 Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player.

New York City FC announced that the Club and Head Coach Domenec Torrent have mutually agreed to part ways. Torrent replaced Patrick Vieira as New York City FC Head Coach in June 2018 and helped guide NYCFC to a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference and, in the 2019 season, NYCFC's first ever Concacaf Champions League berth with a top place Eastern Conference finish.

United Soccer League Championship

Hartford Athletic announced that Radhi Jaidi has been named head coach as the Club prepares for it second USL Championship season, subject to the completion of relevant documentation. Jaidi comes from Southampton Football Club of the Premier League where he served as head coach of the Under-23 Club.

Ottawa Fury FC has been forced to suspend operations. Despite best efforts over a period of many months, the club was unable to obtain the required sanctioning from its governing bodies to participate in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship in 2020.

United Soccer League One

FC Tucson announced that the club and head coach Darren Sawatzky are mutually parting ways. Sawatzky will become the new head coach for USL League One side Richmond Kickers FC.

National Women's Soccer League

FOOTBALL

Canadian Football League

Japan is the latest country to join the Canadian Football League in what has rapidly become a global movement to grow the game of gridiron football.

The Ottawa REDBLACKS and Head Coach Rick Campbell have decided to part ways. After a difficult 3-15 season, Campbell informed the Club that he felt he could not continue as head coach and the club respects his position.

The BC Lions Football Club announced that DeVone Claybrooks has been relieved of his head coaching duties.

Montreal Alouettes' Mario Alford returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, the third longest kickoff return for a touchdown in CFL playoff history.

National Arena League

The Massachusetts Pirates have announced that former three-time Super Bowl Champion Patrick Pass will be the Head Coach for the 2020 season. Pass becomes the third Head Coach in the history of the franchise.

HOCKEY

American Hockey League

Mike Sgarbossa puts on a show in the shootout for the Hershey Bears.

Southern Professional Hockey League

The Quad City Storm hosted an event to paint the names of veterans on the ice as a way to honor Veterans Day.

Boston Celtics 2 Way Player Tacko Fall got after it in his NBA G League debut for Maine Red Claws.

LACROSSE

National Lacrosse League

The San Diego Seals announced that the team will play host to the Colorado Mammoth at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, February 1, 2020 marking the first game in National Lacrosse League history to be played in Las Vegas, on what is traditionally the biggest sports weekend of the year in the city.

OTHER SPORTS

Major League Rugby

The Glendale Raptors, Colorado's only Major League Rugby (MLR) team, announced that they are rebranding as the Colorado Raptors.
