Tucson Padres News Release
The Las Vegas 51s never trailed in their 5-1 victory over the Tucson Padres Thursday. Tucson starter Colt Hynes pitched 5.1 innings and allowed only two runs, but suffered the loss after leaving the game behind, 2-1. The Padres trailed by one and had a baserunner in both the seventh and eighth innings but could not score against the Las Vegas bullpen. The 51s scored three times in the bottom of the eighth on three hits and the Padres went down in order in the top of the ninth.
Las Vegas starter and former Tucson Sidewinder Bill Murphy pitched six strong innings, only allowing a run on Jedd Gyorko's solo home run in the sixth. Tim Redding held the Padres for 1.2 innings despite two walks and Jerry Gil picked up his fifth save, as he entered when the score was 2-1. The Padres had just four hits in the loss and no T-Pads had a multi-hit game.
The Padres have struggled at Cashman Field this season, winning one game in five tries. The Padres are 31-56, in fourth place in the Southern Division, 22 games behind first place Sacramento.
