Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks were defeated by the Las Vegas Desert Dogs 11-9 in their inaugural meeting Friday night at Michelob Arena, ending the Roughnecks' four game win streak.
The Desert Dogs were first on the board with a goal from former Roughneck Marshal King. Shane Simpson answered for Calgary, finding the back of the net in transition, however the home side pulled ahead adding five more to their total to take a 6-1 margin through the first. The Roughnecks swung the momentum back their way in the second, netting six goals and keeping the Desert Dogs to one. The second quarter saw Simpson net two to complete his hat trick, whilst Josh Currier found the back of the net for two and Jesse King and Tanner Cook each added one to the tally to make it 7-7 at the half.
The second half was a lower scoring affair with just two goals from the Desert Dogs allowing them to regain the lead leading into the final frame. Despite Josh Currier netting his third of the night, and Jesse King adding a second, the Roughnecks were unable to complete the comeback as Las Vegas answered each goal with one of their own to remain ahead by two.
Shane Simpson (3g, 1a), Josh Currier (3g, 1a) and Jesse King (2g, 2a) all led the team with four points apiece. Zach Currier scooped 12 loose balls and added both an assist and a blocked shot to his stats. Adam Bland made his NLL debut this evening, playing 5:54 minutes and making 6 saves. Christian Del Bianco stopped 29 of 38 shots, with the Desert Dogs outshooting the Roughnecks 46-41.
The Calgary Roughnecks now have 7 wins and 4 losses on the season with seven games remaining and sit second in the West Conference.
