Bill Laimbeer Quotes
Basically what we did tonight is what we were supposed to do, win a basketball game. By two or by 32, it doesn't really matter we just need to get the home win. We are at that midpoint of the season where we need to grind out as many wins as possible and tonight was no exception. I am very happy for our bench I got to give them a lot of time. There are not many games throughout the league where we get to play extended bench minutes like we did today. I was happy for Swards and Ji-Su specifically because they get the short end of the stick in terms of minutes because of Liz, A'ja and Hamby. Overall I think our team played with the energy necessary to win and again our defense carried the day.
On difference between pairing of A'ja and Liz vs Hamby and Liz...
Hamby has more range than A'ja so she can stretch the court out to the three ball. Hamby also runs the floor better than A'ja so when Liz is winning all the defense of rebounds, Hamby is out putting pressure on the defense. But on the flip side of it A'ja is a much better post up player than Hamby is. Putting different combinations out there makes our team much stronger in the long run. With Liz dominating the inside and Hamby dominating the outside we are very hard to guard.
On the role of Tamara Young...
The same she has been playing all year long. Last year she was a starter and I know it's difficult for her sometime coming off the bench and it is difficult being a bench player in this league which is why I said I am happy that players got some extended bench minutes because it gives them confidence. But Ty is a professional basketball player thats why I got her on this basketball team because I know what I am going to get every night. I am going to get energy I am going to get hustle. Some nights the ball isn't going to go her way. She has gotten away from looking for shots and taking bad shots. This year she is not doing that which is to our advantage. She understands her role right now and sometimes she doesn't like it but at the same time we are 14-6 and there's no complaints about that.
On Aces ability to win without A'ja...
It doesn't matter if its two or 32, you are going to have games like this on both sides of the street we may get blown out one day or we may blow somebody out. But the bottom line is to win. I thought our energy coming out of the All-Star break was solid. We talked a lot about that to make sure there was no lethargic situation and we came out and got it done.
Carolyn Swords Quotes
Q: Do you feel when Ty or someone else has the hot hand, you keep feeding them the ball?
"Definitely. I think that's one of the advantages of having a lot of vets really on the bench. Syd does a great job of really leading the way and making the play calls and figuring out who to go to at which time. That's what we practice for, and then we just have to get out there and execute."
Q: What do you have to do to keep these wins going, especially against the Sparks?
"The Sparks are definitely going to be a great challenge. Last time we were there; it didn't go as planned. We want to continue to win games, putting ourselves in the best position heading down the stretch, so just making sure that we get off to a good start like our starters did today, they did a great job. Solid defense and limiting our turnovers, but really taking it one game at a time."
Q: How do you prepare yourself to come off the bench and just go to work?
"It's great to have such a deep team, so it's really fun to be playing with really great players. So, every day we just do what we need to do to stay ready. Work hard in practice and get our workouts in and you never know what's going to happen during the game, so we all go through the work, and we all go through the scouting report. We have to make sure that we are ready to go, and when we get the opportunity to step in to make a positive change, then that's what we hope to do."
Dearica Hamby Quotes
Q. What do you feel like worked well for you guys tonight?
"I think we just came out with good energy. We played through a lot of contact and finished shots."
Q. How important was it to come out and open up a game with a run like you did?
"It's important. I know people always talk about the post all-star hangover, but we did a really good job of setting the tempo very early and played good defense."
Tamera Young Quotes
Q. How important was it for you to play well?
"Definitely important. It's always important to play well and help out. We're finishing out the second half of the season, making a run at playoffs, so the bench has to come in and do our part. I think we did a great job of that tonight."
Q. How nice is it to have a defense you can rely on every night?
"That's the main thing. The defense was there, the energy was there, and that's something we have to keep carrying over, even when our shots aren't getting there."
Q. What was the focus coming into the game?
"We know what is at stake and we know what our ultimate goal is and we can't lack. We have experienced players coming off the bench and we brought the energy. We know what is at stake for us and so we let it carry over."
Brian Agler Quotes
On tonight's loss...
"I thought Vegas played a good game. They outplayed us from start to finish, that was the tale of the game. We didn't play well, we turned it over, we didn't shoot well, and we didn't compete as I would've liked."
On possible changes this season...
"I've been really optimistic with our team throughout. Right now, it's a little bit difficult. We have some changes we have to make; it was obvious tonight. We have to make changes from line-ups, to roster, and a lot of other things. There is a funk through this, and it's hard to get out from under. We have to make adjustments, and changes."
On preparing for next game...
"In this league you have to move on, you see this all the time in pro basketball. You'll see a team gets beat by 20 or 30 points and the next game they have a chance to respond and play better. We'll find out what we're made of."
Glory Johnson Quotes
On tonight's loss...
"The Aces are playing at another level; they're playing extremely hard defensively. Overall, they look good as a whole. We are struggling finding ourselves defensively, we're making small mistakes that are adding up defensively, and it's making it hard for us on offense. Once we get our defense together, we'll be able to push our offense, run our offense sets easy, and make the defense move. Right now, we're not really making the extra pass. We have to figure out how to play out of that, we just have to get better for the next game."
On battling through current slump...
"Stay up, stay positive, and stay confident because if you don't, it'll get worse. We have to stay together, and when things go wrong, we have to pick each other up. If someone is having an off night, pick up that person and all the positive reinforcement and communication will actually help yourself. We have to stay up and stay positive for each other, and make sure our confidence doesn't go. Once our confidence goes, it's going to be tough to get back."
On preparing for next game...
"There will be certain things that will change up defensively and there will be certain offenses that we'll focus on. We'll go back straight to the drawing board and figure out what will work for us and how we can correct the mistakes we made in this game to try to win."
