
Larsson Hits Game-Winning Homer in 10th

Elizabethton, TN- Chase Larsson is finding his stroke and the Elizabethton Twins are finding that out first hand. Larsson hit a solo blast in the top of the tenth inning on Friday night to give the D-Braves a 5-4 victory over the Twins. It was Larsson's second straight night with a homerun and his fourth in a week's span.
The Twins got to Danville starter, David Filak immediately in the first inning. JaDamion Williams doubled to lead off the home half of the inning and then Rory Rhodes drove him in with a double of his own. The Braves got the run back right away the next half inning. Larsson got his first RBI of the night when he drove Billy Beckwith home to tie the game at one a piece.
In the fourth, Sam Munson crushed his third homerun of the season. It was a solo shot that gave the Braves a 2-1 lead. It was in the fifth inning that the Twins took the lead again. Williams had a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and then Niko Goodrum reached on a error by third baseman, Brandon Drury. The error allowed Williams to score giving the Twins a 3-2 lead.
The back and forth game continued with each team scoring one run in the sixth inning. Danville's run came off an error on pitcher, Steven Gruver. Gruver's throwing error allowed Larsson to score his first run of the night. In the bottom of the inning, Miguel Sano hit his seventh homerun of the year off of Danville reliever, John Cornely.
The D-Braves were down by one run in the top of the eighth. Kyle Kubitza was put in to pinch hit for Elmer Reyes, but Kubitza grounded into a fielder's choice. Randy Ingle replaced Kubitza on first with a pinch runner, Fernando De Los Santos. Chad Comer came through with a big hit for the Danville; doubling to left field allowing De Los Santos to score all the way from first. The Braves tied the game at four and it would eventually lead to extra innings.
In the tenth, Chase Larsson came through with yet another big hit. Larsson led off the inning with the game winning hit. Larsson took a pitch from Cole Johnson to deep left field for his fifth homerun of the season. He went 2-for-3 on the night with two big runs scored and two big RBIs.
Joe Lucas came in to close out the game for the D-Braves. He got the Twins out in order and saved his fifth game of the season. Jarrett Miller pitched the eighth and ninth got the win after allowing just one hit and striking out two. The Braves improved their record to 20-17 and remain just a game and a half out of first.
Danville extended its winning streak to four games on Friday night and will attempt the sweep of the Twins on Saturday. Their next home game will be on August 6 when the Bristol White Sox come to town.
