D-Braves Sweep Twins, Move Into Second

Elizabethton, TN - On Saturday night the D-Braves completed a three game sweep of the Elizabethton Twins. The 3-2 win over the Twins was sparked by yet another Chase Larsson homerun and it moved the team into second in the Appalachian League East Division.
Not only did Chase Larsson finish the scoring last night and tonight, he started it tonight also. Billy Beckwith singled to lead off the second inning and moved up to second with Edison Sanchez grounded out. Larsson came up and doubled on a line drive to right for his eighth double of the year and his first of two runs batted in on the night.
Already with a 1-0 lead the D-Braves added one more run in the fourth inning. With two outs Larsson walked and then stole second base. On his attempt to steal, catcher, Matt Parker, tried to gun him out but instead threw the ball away. The throw allowed Larsson to take third. It was Larsson's fourth stolen base of the year and Parker's second error. A single to center field by Sam Munson on the very next play allowed Larsson to score easily.
Elizabethton was able to get a run back in the bottom of the fourth. After Danville starter, JR Graham, retired the first 11 batters he faced, he gave up a single to Eddie Rosario. With Kennys Vargas batting, Rosario was able to steal second for his ninth stolen base of 2011. Vargas eventually walked and then Rosario scored on a Miguel Sano single to left field. The Twins cut the D-Braves lead to 2-1.
Elizabethton evened up the score the very next inning. After three straight singles, a wild pitch by Graham allowed Matt Parker to score and tie the game at two. Graham finished out the inning and his night was over. Graham was the pitcher on record when Danville took the lead in the next inning so he got his second win of the year. He went five full innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits. He walked just one batter and struck out seven.
The Twins starter, David Hurlbut, was still in the game to start the sixth inning. He was able to get Beckwith and Sanchez on swinging strikeouts to start out the inning. The next batter, Larsson, took him deep for his sixth homerun of the year giving the Braves a 3-2 lead. It was Larsson's fifth homerun in a week and his third straight night with a homerun.
AJ Holland relieved Graham to start out the sixth and pitched the next three innings. Holland stuck out the side in each inning he pitched. He allowed two hits in his three innings, but struck out nine. Daniel Lopez pitched the final inning of the game. He also struck out the side giving the D-Braves pitchers 19 strikeouts on the night. Lopez earned his second save of the season.
Danville's winning streak now stands at five games and they are a game and a half behind the first place Bluefield Blue Jays. The team travels to Bristol, VA now to take on the Bristol White Sox in a three game series. The D-Braves next home game will be on August 6 when the Bristol White Sox come to town.
