Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS ) -- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) have added left winger Garrett Larson to the roster for the 2008-09 season, according to Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski. Larson returns to the CHL after playing overseas in France's top division last year with HC Neuilly-sur-Marne.

In France, Larson put up outstanding numbers with 38 goals and 73 points in just 26 appearances. In the playoffs for "Les Bisons," Garrett added five goals and nine points in four encounters.

Garrett felt the year in France helped him home his offensive skills for his return to American professional hockey. "The skill level there was about the same; it just wasn't as physical, so for me to be able to play there allowed me to make some plays and get that feeling back of scoring goals and gaining some confidence that I can bring to the RiverKings this year."

The 6-foot, 200-pound Larson went overseas last season after playing in the CHL for the Colorado Eagles and the Youngstown SteelHounds. Garrett spent the 2005-06 season with the Eagles, playing in all 64 games and scoring 22 goals and 47 points, then adding three assists in eleven playoff games for Colorado.

The left-handed shooting forward started the 2006-07 year with the Eagles, scoring three goals and ten points in 32 games, but was traded at the season's mid-point to Youngstown, where he joined Kaminski and the SteelHounds. Larson finished out the season with Youngstown, scoring 12 goals and 21 points in 21 games. Garrett played in six playoff games there, but failed to score points in them.

Kaminski expects big things from Larson in size, speed, and goal scoring. "He's a big kid who's great on the cycle and can find the open ice to score. I saw him go on a tear two years ago with 12 goals and nine assists for 21 points in 21 games. He will be a big part of our offence and team success."

Larson is looking forward to be re-united with his former coach, adding, "He (Kaminski) can see where the players are coming from and can relate to them better than some of the other coaches I've been playing for. I'm definitely excited to be getting down there."

Single game ticket sales for the Mississippi RiverKings' 2008-09 campaign will go on sale Monday, September 15th at the DeSoto Civic Center. For more information, call 662-342-1755 and get your seats now for exciting RiverKings' hockey this season!
