Finlandia's Top Scorers Join Scorpions

September 12, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Scorpions head coach Randy Murphy has turned to the college ranks to find some scoring talent with the signing of Josh Paquette and Ryan Sullivan. Both forwards arrive in New Mexico after playing for Finlandia University.

Paquette finished his collegiate career breaking all major offensive records in the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA). In 98 games the Marquette, Michigan native scored 130 points, 47 goals and 83 assists, all high marks for an MCHA player's tenure.

"I am expecting him to have a big year offensively as a rookie," said Murphy. "He is a gifted player and I look for him to step into the lineup and play at a high level."

For his strong seasons, Paquette was named to the All-Conference team following the 2005-06 and 2006-07 season along with garnering a spot on the All-Freshman team following the 2004-05 campaign.

Sullivan, also from Marquette, sits among the career leaders in the MCHA as well. His 40 goals, including 17 last season, left him ninth on the MCHA career goal scoring list.

"Ryan has a different style from Josh; he is a real high energy player that gets around the ice with good skating ability," said Murphy. "I expect Ryan to do whatever it takes to crack the lineup on a consistent basis."

The past two seasons he scored 10 goals each year and overall has 21 in his three year career, all conference records. Like Paquette, he was named to the All-Conference team following the 2006-07 season.

"Even though they play with a different style, I expect both of them to adapt to the professional game fairly quickly," said Murphy"
